A true knot and one lump | Elsa Murray-White
This collection of drawings, A true knot and one lump, are born out of my desire to create work that is direct, immediate and as honest as possible. It represents a transition away from a long held tension about the need to create work that endures the weight and seriousness of art culture which I have felt hangs over me like an inflexible father figure. It is not a new idea to unleash the unconscious in an attempt to spill some kind of truth and I hope that this work speaks to the vulnerability inherent in my process. This collection was made during a time fraught with illness, medical intervention, loss and trauma and is a reflection on my experience of motherhood.
