Totem | Selby Ginn

Totem, a body of work exploring themes relating to hierarchy of scale, botanical motifs, sacred objects, and slogans like LOVE, FREEDOM, WITH LOVE FOREVER and PEACE. Ginn has chosen to leave major works unglazed allowing the rawness and beauty of the clay to be seen uncoloured or covered by glaze or pigment.

During her Honours year in Fine Art at RMIT, her professional career in fashion was rapidly expanding. Ginn became a young fashion buyer, merchandiser and operations manager, she worked with experimental labels such as trippen (GER), John Fluevog (CAN), CAMPER (SPA). Working in the footwear industry definitely shaped her appreciation of production, design and the leather industry, which is why she uses repurposed and remnant leather.

When Ginn is in her studio she is literally collaborating with herself – ‘she is a gemini’ and needed to make sense of her two creative practice’s hence the name SELBYXSELBY.

Ginn has exhibited her work at the Venice Biennale, the Melbourne Art Fair, China and Australia and is stocked in various stores.
